Nairobi

We arrived in Nairobi last night after a good flight. That's our first blessing. It's good to be in Kenya again. I'm sitting here with a jungle fan going over my head however it needs oiling and screeched through the night, not too much sleep . It's in the high 70s and I'm sure it will be warmer once we drop down into the Rift Valley.

We are heading out to the village in about an hour. It will take us about 1 - 2 hours to get there. Our friend's tour group is joining us today for "a village experience". I am eager to see how that is going to go, the women's group has not hosted a tour group before. This could be a good fundraiser for them.

We're thinking of you all at home.

I am a teacher at International School of Kenya and am looking for a Maasai woman to come in to speak to our classes about current issues within the Maasai community. We study traditional Maasai culture and stories then we go and stay with a group of Maasai near Sienna Springs. The students get a lot of information from the men, but women only speak to us on one day for a couple of hours and then do some beading with the kids. This year we are going to help repair a house as well, but we find that there is limited interaction with the women. Last year we had a great Maasai woman who works at the Canadian embassy come to speak to us. I am looking for someone to come into our classes again. Our focus is on globalization's impact on culture and changes that occur with continued interaction between people. Does your group have anyone here who might be able to take 4 hours out of a day and come to speak to our 14 year old students? Contact me at khelgason@isk.ac.ke
